Accessibility & How I Work

At True Self Wealth, inclusion is one of our core values. I’ve designed the advice process to be as accessible and supportive as possible — but I also know that everyone’s needs are different. If there’s something I’ve missed, just let me know.

Meetings

Most of my work is online, but I’m happy to meet in person where needed. My office in Spinningfields is wheelchair accessible — please note the toilets are gendered.

If in-person is easier, I’m happy to meet in a public space or your home. I’ll need to consider travel distance, but please do ask — I have clients and friends across the UK, so I often group visits together to reduce my carbon footprint.

If you have pets, they’re welcome to be around during the meeting as long as they won’t be too distracting. I’m not allergic to animals and I’m a big animal lover, so I’ll probably want to say hello.

For my own safety, I will always arrange a phone call before meeting you in your home for the first time, and I’ll share the meeting details with my assistant.

Comfort & Consent

Feel free to stim, have a drink, or ask for a break. Eating isn’t always practical during meetings, especially if we’re talking through information, but if you need to, let me know. I can send you something to fill in instead, or group the information into a chunk you can listen to while you eat.

You’re more than welcome to bring someone with you — a partner, friend, family member — as long as you’re comfortable sharing your information with them. If financial stuff feels overwhelming or unfamiliar, that’s absolutely fine. You don’t need to come in with any experience, and I’ll adapt the conversation to your needs.

Before & After We Meet

I’ll aim to send an agenda and share the kinds of questions I might ask, so you have time to prepare. If you need time during a meeting to look something up, that’s completely okay — I can always keep myself busy. If we don’t cover everything, we’ll either book another session or I’ll send follow-up actions by email.

Where possible, I’ll split meetings into separate topics. For example, we’ll go through a protection insurance recommendation in one meeting. If you’re ready to go ahead, we might complete the application there and then or book another time.

Online Meetings & Software

I use Zoom as standard — it helps with accessibility and makes it easy for me to send you meeting notes. That said, I’m happy to use other platforms. I can’t set up Teams or Google Meet calls myself, but I can join them if needed.

Zoom AI is automatically activated on my calls. I take my own notes to make sure the information is accurate, but I’ll always forward the notes and action points to you after the meeting.

Online meetings are usually an hour long, but if shorter meetings work better for you, I can absolutely accommodate that.

Tech & Documents

A laptop or tablet is usually easiest for meetings, but if you’re joining from your phone, let me know in advance. That way, I can email or post documents to you beforehand.

I can send advice reports in Word format so you can use text-to-speech software. I try to keep my reports clear and to the point, while still meeting regulatory requirements. I’ll always talk through the key points with you and give you time to read and digest them.

I download PDFs in screen-reader-friendly formats where possible. If you use a particular background colour (e.g. grey or blue), I can format my documents accordingly. If the document comes from another provider and I can’t edit it or send a word document, you can usually adjust the colour in your PDF software.

Signing & Sending Documents

Many providers accept electronic documents, and we’ll use Adobe or DocuSign to send these where possible. Very few documents need a wet signature, but if they do and you don’t have a printer, we’ll send you a self-addressed envelope.

If tech isn’t your thing, we’re happy to work by post instead.

You’ll mostly hear from me (Jamie), but occasionally my assistant Abby will send documents. I’ll always be your adviser, and I respond to my own emails. All meetings will be with me directly.

Inclusive Practice

We work with clients from all kinds of backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ people, polyamorous families, and people living with health conditions — including mental health. This is a judgement-free space. I’ll always look at your situation from a financial point of view, and do my best to support you as a whole person.

No prior financial knowledge is expected. I adapt to different experience levels — I don’t want to patronise anyone, but I also don’t want to assume knowledge. If I use any technical terms you don’t understand, I’m more than happy to explain them.

Getting in Touch

You can contact me by text, WhatsApp, email, or phone call — whatever works best for you. I don’t keep strict office hours, but I ask that calls happen between 9 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. You’re welcome to send emails or messages at any time, and I’ll get back to you when I’m next working.

There might be times when I need to know more about your current arrangements. You can send screenshots or paperwork, or I can contact your provider directly to request the details.

Evening meetings are available if you need them. I try to keep weekends free for rest, but if that’s the only time you can meet, I’ll do my best to accommodate.

Letting me know your access needs helps me do better.

Although I’ve designed a process that aims to be inclusive, I’m human and might occasionally forget something. If there’s anything I can do to make our meetings or communications easier for you, please don’t hesitate to ask.
